Iron manager Graham Alexander spoke to BBC Radio Humberside about Matt Crooks’ recent move to Northampton Town.

He said, “I was hopeful, I wouldn’t say I was over confident. I believed there was a possible chance in us signing Matt. I think there was a will from Matt’s side from that to happen but when other clubs become involved and put their case forward it is down to the player and their advisors.”

Alexander also revealed he spoke to Crooks following his decision to move to Sixfields, saying, “I have spoke to Matt since. He rang me and just informed me of his decision which I can understand. Everyone has their reasons and he went with our best wishes.

“There was no hard feelings and we both enjoyed working with each other.”

The Iron will undoubtedly look to strengthen their midfield further, following the signing of Funso Ojo.
